I can’t see the Mosaicshot icon in the menu bar.
macOS may hide it. Open System Settings → Menu Bar → Allow in the Menu Bar and turn on Mosaicshot. If your menu bar is full, icons can also be hidden behind the menus of the app in front: hold ⌘ and drag the Mosaicshot icon to the right. You can always open its settings by opening Mosaicshot again from the Applications folder.
Capturing does nothing, or it asks for permission.
Mosaicshot needs the Screen Recording permission. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording, turn on Mosaicshot, then click Relaunch Mosaicshot.
How do I change the keyboard shortcut?
Open Mosaicshot’s settings, click the shortcut next to Capture area and press the new combination. The default is ⌥⇧4.
Can a pixelated area be recovered?
The original pixels of a redacted area are never included in the exported file. Pixelate and blur keep only a few coarse, noise-shifted averages, designed to resist depixelation tools; a solid block keeps nothing at all, so use it for the most sensitive data.
Does Mosaicshot upload my screenshots?
Never. Mosaicshot has no internet access and collects no data.
Which Macs does it run on?
Any Mac with macOS 14 Sonoma or later, with Apple silicon or Intel.
